Pakistan is Co-hosting the ‘Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018’, along with Sri Lanka, kicked off here in Pakistan, with two games played in Karachi of Group B. Pakistan U23 defeated Hong Kong comprehensively by 225 runs margin at the National Stadium, While United Arab Emirates stunned Bangladesh U23 by 97 runs in another group match played at Southend Ground DHA.
After being asked to bat first by the Hong Kong captain, Pakistan ruled the proceedings from the first over with the openers put up a 219-run partnership. Sahibzad Farhan (130) and Imran (107) scored well compiled centuries to help Pakistan set Hong Kong a formidable target of 367 runs. After the fall of the openers, Khushdil Shah contributed with a quick knock of 83 off 40 balls set the tone towards the huge total in the first innings. Aizaz Khan picked up two wickets for 92 runs in nine overs.
Chasing the target of 367 runs, tourists never got off to a good start, losing 4 wickets inside first power play; saw a hat-trick by Mohammad Ilyas, who finished with 5 for 35 in his seven over. Due to that disastrous start, Hong Kong weren’t able to challenge the target and the whole team could only manage 141 in 34 overs. Khushdil Shah took two wickets while Sameen Gul, Hussain Talat and Mohammad Asghar got a wicket each.
Player of the Match: For his brilliant bowling including hat-trick, Ilyas took the award for the player of the match.

In the second game, UAE outclassed Bangladesh U23 team to register their win in the competition, toss won by Rohan Mustafa, he decided to bat first on a fairly good batting pitch, his team responded brilliantly. Top order contributed with the major chunk of the runs for the team, Ashfaq failed 2 runs short to his 2nd List-A hundred, the wicket keeper batsman Shabber made his 9th List-A fifty, while captain himself scored 40 runs. However lower order didn’t contributed much to the cause, which resulted team dismissed in the 50th over. For Bangladesh U23 Islam picked up 4 wickets.
In reply, Bangladash started cautiously, and at one time they were looking confident enough to complete the chase, but Ahmed Raza and Imran Haider had some other thoughts. Bangladesh faced a mini-collapse from 79 for 2 to 80 for 6, this collapse was enough to break the backbone of their batting line, resultantly only managed to make 170 runs in 37th over. Raza and Haider bagged four wickets each.
Player of the match: Ashfaq Ahmed was awarded player of the match award on his brilliant 98 runs.

In group A, Sri Lanka U23 will play their first game against Oman and India U23 will face Afghanistan U23 in Colombo.
